Install Laptop RAM

About a month ago, I just learned how to install Laptop RAM by myself.

It was for my wife's old laptop which we bought in 2006. Her laptop had only 248Mb of RAM (Random Access Memory). RAM is important for multimedia applications, games, and for doing several things simultaneously in your computer.

We were feeling the old age of her laptop whenever she goes to her Facebook page, or whenever she opens iTunes to synchronize her iPod. Based on the manufacturer's analysis of our laptop's specs, it was determined that its performance would significantly improve once we install laptop RAM.

Looking for a laptop RAM upgrade is not that difficult. We had to make sure the RAM specs are compatible with our current system. In our case, our laptop had 2 memory slots that could be used to 1Gb RAM each. The RAM upgrade also had to be the correct frequency with the mother board to work properly.

Another learning was that it's harder to find the older memory specs because they were already obsolete. It was also sometimes more expensive because of the lack of available supply. I had to ask all the the computer stores in our place and I was lucky to find one 1Gb of RAM with the correct specs for our laptop.

Once we completed the laptop RAM upgrade, we immediately noticed that the laptop booted up faster and went through websites and application easier than before the upgrade. We were pleased with our decision to just install laptop RAM instead of buying a new computer which is really outside our budget.

Blog Updates for November

Happy Thanksgiving! I know, this celebration is only for those who live in the USA. But personally, I have a lot to give thanks for myself. Firstly, my wife is pregnant and is expected to give birth to a baby boy. We have been waiting for this for quite some time now, so we are both very excited. And secondly, I amabout to receive my Google Adsense check next week! Blogging for me has become a rewarding past time.
For November, we launched a new blog which is about Bartender Careers. It is a blog that talks about bartending as a profession. It's a blog for those who were, who are and for those who want to be, bartenders. Go ahead and visit and let me know what you think.

It's a month to go before Christmas, and people are starting to feel the rush. It is the start of the season for so many Fairs, Expos and Shopping bazaars. In fact, it is in one electronics expo where we have spotted Sam YG. Have you already started buying gifts for Christmas? Don't wait 'til the last minute because you might get overwhelmed.

For December, I plan to blog about my baby boy and how my life will forever change since I will now become a member of the exclusive tatay's (father's) club. I don't expect to make a lot of time for blogging then. I will prioritize my personal life and I am sure people will understand.

Pacquiao's Secret Weapon

First of all, I would like to congratulate Manny Money Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto for an AMAZING match last night! They both deserve all the best in their future careers.

If you watch the Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight Philippine free TV, you can't do away with all the commercial breaks that they play in between rounds. And actually, most of the commercials also feature Pacquiao in them! By watching carefully, you will be able to see Pacquiao's secret weapon...

Here is Pacquiao's secret weapon. He uses Head and Shoulders Shampoo para "tanggal ang Cotto".

I don't think any other boxer would have this kind of mass appeal to be endorsing just about anything from milk, to beer, to hair products. Congratulations once again to The Most Famous Person in the World.

Now, how about going through some of that Manny Pacquiao Merchandise in Amazon? I heard the Pound-for-Pound shirt looks good...

We went to the Consumer Electronics Live! event at the World Trade Center last Saturday to check on the latest gadgets released by the major electronics companies. While walking around, we spotted Sam YG promoting his TV show called MOG TV.

Looking after the Pennies...

Times are pretty hard at present, price rises and unemployment are forever occupying the headlines and so its quite natural most of us are concerned about our money. Never has there been a better time to give your finances a complete service and save a little cash in the process.

Monitor your Spends.

The first thing you should do is analyze exactly what you spend your money on. The best way to do this is by creating a spending diary which you can update at the end of the day with exactly what you bought and what it cost. After about a month, sit down and review your months spending and identify areas savings can be made. Believe me, this simple little exercise will throw up some surprising results and may save you a fortune on its own.

Review your Subscriptions

Okay, you’ve decided to keep your gym membership as you do go once or maybe twice a week but make sure you’re getting value for money. I visit the gym once a week and so a membership is wasted on me as I pay per visit. Work out if paying per visit is better for you and don’t just consider the gym you are at, look at all of them.

Perhaps you have a contract cell phone with 1000 free minutes but only use 300. Question all your outgoings with “am I getting value for money?”

Keep a Close Eye on Your Accounts

This doesn’t mean check them every waking hour, you just need to know how much you have at any given time. If you know this, you are more likely to make better spending decisions instead of throwing caution to the wind. You will also be less likely to use unwanted credit which will be very expensive.

Get Saving

Even if you have nothing in mind to save for, get some money in the bank every time you get a paycheck. Life has a funny habit of throwing up some unpleasant little surprises every now and then and when it does, you will be much better prepared with savings to fall back on. You don’t have to put hundreds a month away, just whatever you can manage.

Spend a Little

This may seem to be going against the whole post but you have to allow yourself a little time to unwind. If you restrict your spending too much, you run the risk of not sticking to your plan, so be realistic and have a night out.

A lot personal finance problems arise when people neglect their money and spending. By spending just an hour a week organizing your cash flow, you are likely to save a fortune in the long run.
